One of my favorite parts about registering was selecting dinnerware. In college I worked in the ‘Tabletop’ section of a major department store and I loved imagining what my own place settings would look like when it came time for me to register. It was so fun to help a bride and groom select a style that suited their needs – and there was a lot to consider!
So when it came to selecting what my future husband and I would use, I became a little obsessed. I knew I wanted a high quality product that wouldn’t chip and would stand the test of time (we are going on 10 years and one plate has chipped). I also wanted a style that would work with our personalities and whatever colors I decide to use in my home (to say I change my mind on wall color often is an understatement). I selected a porcelain style that had 3 different colors – white, light purple and light aqua. It is a pattern that is no longer sold, but that has never bothered me because the pattern is simple and can be mixed with other styles easily.
So what should you consider when it comes to your dinnerware?
- Durability / Quality – Will it last? Does the brand have a great reputation?
- Style and Color – Does it suit your style and your home’s style?
- Function – How does it stack? Do you have cabinet space for it if it doesn’t stack well?
