Congratulations on your engagement! We know that the first thing a girl thinks about when she gets engaged (aside from her new bling) is the dress! So whether your wedding is 2 years away or 2 months away, we know you’re already dreaming about what you’ll wear on your wedding day. Here are some helpful tips to get you started:
Where should I go?
Start with doing a search of bridal shops in your area and check out their websites to see who they carry. If you like any of their designers, make a note and jot down the shop’s phone number. Once you have a few to choose from, decide on a date that would work for you and your decision makers to visit the stores.
Who should I bring?
Less is more in the case of a wedding gown shopping entourage. A lot of girls do the “I’ll go try some on with my friends, narrow it down and then bring my Mom.” While this sounds like a great way to go it can become very confusing because friends are going to choose dresses they like without keeping you in mind AND they might get jealous of all of your attention which would ruin your experience.
So best case scenario entourage? Mom (or Dad – possibly both), Maid of Honor and if needed Mother-in-Law
What’s my budget?
Most brides spend on average $1000 on their wedding gown. That will generally get you a reputable designer with quality fabrics and lots of styling options. If you bump your budget to $1800 you’ll start getting into silk fabrics and better quality beading. $2000 – $4500 steps you into more “couture” options. $5000 and up will get you the cream of the crop!
This is just the tip of the iceberg for gown shopping – We’ll dive into it more so stay tuned!
